Renowned US economist Jeffrey Sachs delivered a speech at the European Parliament on Feb 19, in which he criticized the increasingly aggressive foreign and security policies adopted by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and its excessive interference in European affairs.
Sachs argued that diplomats should focus on diplomacy rather than acting as “secretaries of war”.
Expressing his concern over NATO’s frequently aggressive rhetoric, Sachs said, “Could someone in NATO stop talking, for God’s sake, about more war?”
He also questioned NATO’s claims to represent Europe, saying, “Could NATO stop speaking for Europe and Europe stop thinking it’s NATO?”
